Get to walk through one of the top remote streams on Vieques island which leads to Playa Negra (Black Sand Beach) where the sand is, well, black. Many times, while walking through the stream to the beach, we are able to share the path with friendly horses walking the opposite direction as we are. These horses are accustomed to being close to tourists year round. Many of them love fruits as treats in order to be petted. “Are the horses on the island wild?” - Is a recurring question from our visitors. The truth is they are not entirely wild. These noble beings all have owners  who let them roam free. By doing so, it gives our visitors perfect scenes for picture taking and also takes them back in the era when cars were not invented. Finalizing this trail is the charming Black Sand Beach where the sand is not only beautiful and black, but it is also magnetic. When visitors look around, they are able to admire the dramatic cliffs that make the beach an enchanting cove. After this beautiful and adventurous hike, we then drive to a different beach, called Rompe Olas. This place is a wave breaker. It is usually very calm! However, when it is windy, only one side is rough since the ‘rompe olas’ (wave breaker) stops the wind and the currents from disturbing the opposite side where it remains calm as a result of  the wave breaker. This beach is excellent for visitors to cool off after the alluring hike to Playa Negra. In the water, there are colorful corals, different types of schools of fish and finally, but not least, the tour guides lead visitors to where different types of sea turtles are spotted. Like the horses on the hiking trail, these sea turtles are accustomed to tourists year round. If swimmers remain calm when they get close to the sea turtles, the turtles will not chase away, but remain and continue doing what they were doing before tourists spotted them. The sea turtles are usually eating from the corals that grow on the pillons of the pier. The three types of sea turtles recognized at Rompe Olas are the Green Sea Turtles, Hawksbill Sea Turtles and the Loggerhead.
